The Sri Lanka Association for Professional Social Workers (SLAPSW) is a prominent organization
dedicated to promoting the social work profession in Sri Lanka. It serves as a platform for social
workers to network, collaborate, and advocate for social justice and welfare in the country.
SLAPSW offers various services and resources to its members, including training programs,
workshops, conferences, and publications, to enhance their professional development and empower
them to make positive impacts in their communities. Additionally, the association plays a crucial
role in setting ethical standards and guidelines for social work practice in Sri Lanka.

SELECT MEMBERSHIP TYPES

Associate members the annual membership fee is 750 LKR (Per Year)
Category A
Do have a formal education in Social Work and is not engaged in practical training related to Social work/ social service at the time of enrollment. -
Category B
Do not have a formal education in Social Work but engaged in a profession associated with Social Work at the time of enrollment with five years of experience.

Full Member the annual membership fee is 1000 LKR (Per Year)
(They do have a formal education in Social Work and had engaged in practical training related to social work/ social service at the time of enrollment. They do have the right to participate in committee votes and maintain a profile in their name in the web page. [ after the approval of the executive team]. Apart from this they too are entitled to a discount to participate in workshops.)

Lifetime Member the one-time membership fee is 10000 LKR( Per Year)
(Those are the individuals who have a formal education, engaged in practical training at the time of enrollment. The service of more than 3 years for the development of the association would be an advantage to apply. They do have the right to participate in committee votes and maintain a profile in their name on the web page. [ after the approval of the executive team]. Apart from this they too are entitled to the discount to participate in workshops.)

An honorary Member additionally contributed to the social work field(Limited to enrollment of such positions:4 per year)
They are not entitled to vote on the committee and are allowed to maintain a profile under their name in the webpage. Apart from this they will be specially considered for discounts to participate in workshops.

Overseas members the annual membership fee would be $100 and do have the right to vote at the committee.
Due to any reason if a qualified person (education + experience) had refrained from gaining membership and needs instantly, he/she must pay $100 and must join as a oversees member. Code of conduct (police report & certificate) would be considered at the enrollment.

Student member fee is 500 LKR (Per Year)
A student pursuing his/her undergraduate degree programme in the field of Social Work (Full-time) or a Student who has enrolled on an undergraduate programme of Social Science in a recognized university can apply for student membership. Being a member of the SLAPSW students will have benefits as follows,
Networking Opportunities: Associations provide platforms for students to connect with experienced professionals, potential mentors, and peers. Networking can lead to valuable relationships, job opportunities, and insights into the field.
Access to Resources: Members often gain access to resources such as research papers, case studies, best practices, and industry updates. These resources can enrich learning experiences and aid in academic and professional development.
Professional Development: offer workshops, conferences, seminars, and training sessions that help students enhance their skills, stay updated on industry trends, and meet continuing education requirements.
Advocacy and Support: Associations advocate for the interests of their members and the profession as a whole. They provide support in navigating ethical dilemmas, professional challenges, and policy issues, ensuring students have a voice in shaping the future of the profession.
Credentialing and Certification: offer certification programs or opportunities to earn credentials, which can enhance credibility, marketability, and job prospects upon graduation relevant to the professional development of social work.
Discounts and Benefits: provide discounts on conferences, publications, insurance, and other professional services, helping students save money while accessing valuable resources and opportunities depending on the availability of funds.
Continued Support After Graduation: Membership in a professional association doesn't end after graduation. Many associations offer discounted rates for recent graduates and provide ongoing support and resources as individuals transition into their professional careers.

For other membership category
(There shall be changes of all these amounts and the benefits after the decisions taken by each annual general meetings)
To shift from one specification to the other one must reapply. In this case registration number will not be subjected to change. (eg: student member applying for associate member after the graduation)
Access to Resources: Members often gain access to resources such as research papers, case studies, best practices, and industry updates. These resources can enrich learning experiences and aid in academic and professional development.
It is compulsory to pay for the membership fee before the 31st of December for the relevant year and in case it was missed the rejoining fee of 1500 LKR must be paid along with the previous years membership fee.
Advocacy and Support: Associations advocate for the interests of their members and the profession as a whole. They provide support in navigating ethical dilemmas, professional challenges, and policy issues, ensuring students have a voice in shaping the future of the profession.
But for the current year payment of rejoining fee is not necessary. This must be made valid as of 31. 12. 2024.
Discounts and Benefits: provide discounts on conferences, publications, insurance, and other professional services, helping students save money while accessing valuable resources and opportunities depending on the availability of funds.
Terminating the membership must be done according to the ethical system prepared after the approval from the disciplinary committee appointed by the executive team.

Join us
Join the SLAPSW and support our mission to empower all the communities in Sri Lanka by promoting
professional social work education and practice.
After submitting the completed membership application form including the payment of the
application processing fee of 400 LKR, your application will be first reviewed at the quarterly
membership meeting.

If you were shortlisted by the membership selection team, you will have to face an interview as
the next phase of selection.
Within a month following the interview, SLAPSW will contact you for the payment of the membership
fee which you have to pay within two months of the notification.
Following 6 months of your membership, you are eligible to receive the membership IDs as E card
issued by the SLAPSW, which needs to be renewed Annually
